August 2007
Commander’s Column – By Nick Posey
As many of you are aware, there was an increase in membership dues passed at the SCV National Reunion on Friday, July 27th, in Mobile, Alabama. Our SCV National dues will increase $10.00 per year beginning August 1st, 2008. Dues will not increase this membership year. Annual membership dues are currently due. This membership year runs from August 1st, 2007 through July 31st, 2008. Dues can be paid at the next three meetings, or mailed to camp’s mailing address. SCV National Headquarters must receive members’ dues before November 1st.
We’ll be returning to Sconyers Bar-B-Que Restaurant this Thursday night. Our program speaker will be SCV Field Representative Jack Marlar from Fountain Inn, SC. He’s a member and past commander of the 16th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers in Greenville, SC. He will speak on "Great Artillery Actions of the War Between the States." Jack is an expert on the various types of artillery used during the WBTS period. He founded the Palmetto Light Artillery Reenacting Society, and he is currently the Chief Technical Advisor to the Hunley Commission. This should be a very interesting and informative presentation on artillery.
I look forward to seeing all of you at Sconyers this Thursday. Bring a guest and join us for an evening of Southern fellowship and Confederate heritage!

Scripture for Thought…
Isaiah 55: [8] For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. [9] For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. [10] For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: [11] So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
John 14: [1] Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. [2] In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
John 14: [6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Southern Quotes…
"The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite." - Thomas Jefferson
"Captain, the secret treachery that caused the war will come to light, and justify the South. Truth is deathless!" - Admiral Raphael Semmes, C.S.N.
Lincoln's war implied, and the Gettysburg Address set to words, a firm message to the States of the Union - "I love you all, and if you leave me, I'll hunt you down and kill you." The Address was not the sagely comments of a wise statesman, rather the vain, obsessive rantings of a power-hungry demon engaging in a blood-thirsty mission of self-aggrandizement, no matter the volume of corpses required to attain it. - Lewis Goldburg
