Commander’s Column - By Nick Posey

As I write this, it’s the day after the very much-anticipated protest of Augusta’s scalawag mayor, Bob Young, and the perpetually offended NAACP for their removal of the 2nd National Confederate flag from an historic display of flags on Augusta’s beautiful Riverwalk. To give you a little background history, the protest was originally going to be against the SC NAACP for their ongoing economic boycott of South Carolina for not removing the Confederate flag from the SC capitol grounds. The protest was going to be led by the SC League of the South with assistance from the GA League of the South. When this was the scenario, Camp #158 was going to participate, but as an unnamed participant. When the flag became the primary issue, everything changed. When word got out that the Confederate flag had been removed to appease the NAACP agitators, SCV National and the Georgia Division SCV sanctioned and endorsed the protest. The SCV was now openly involved and Camp #158 along with other GA and SC SCV camps took an active part in the protest.

In typical fashion for a spineless politician, Bob Young had the 2nd National Confederate flag removed so as not to offend the tender sensitivities of the intolerant, racist NAACP. This was done as a result of pressure from local businesses, the hospitality industry (Convention And Visitors Bureau) and a few Augusta Commissioners (black only). The hospitality industry in Augusta had negotiated with the SC NAACP for two years to convince them to hold their annual convention in Augusta and finally got them to commit. So I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the removal of the flag on Riverwalk had been in the planning for over a year before it was actually removed by Augusta’s gutless wonder, Mayor Young. After all, contributing to the eradication of Southern heritage is now a badge of honor for self-serving guilty white politicians like Bob Young.

I want to personally thank all who participated in the protest on Thursday, 10/07 (over 30 participants), Friday, 10/08 (over 20 participants) and Saturday, 10/09. At the peak of the protest on Saturday we had 110 to 120 people holding flags and signs. We had a good number of Camp #158 members (and wives and children) that participated. There was strong support from other SCV camps in GA and SC, especially the local area camps. There was also strong support from members of the South Carolina and Georgia League of the South. And there were a few people that joined us that weren’t members of a Southern heritage group, but wanted to participate. I think it’s greatly to our advantage that the different Southern heritage groups can work together for a common goal instead working as divided, individual entities, which is counter-productive.

I also want to thank all of those that helped plan and organize this event. I was proud to be a part of this protest, along with many dedicated fellow Southerners, who took a public stand for their Southern heritage. The response from the public was overwhelmingly in our favor. People are delighted to see that somebody will finally stand up to the racist NAACP bullies and not just rollover like the politically correct politicians.

Our Confederate ancestors would be extremely proud of their descendants for continuing to defend the honor of their good name and the South that they so dearly loved.

Scripture for Thought

If thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, if he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity: but thou has delivered thy soul. Ezekiel 33:9

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. Proverbs 17:28

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour

you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15: 57, 58

Quotes:

"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brushfires in people's minds." - Founding Father Samuel Adams

"I apprehend no danger to our country from a foreign foe...Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing."
Daniel Webster, Works 1:403 (June 1, 1837)

"Under Federal Legislation, the exports of the South have been the basis of the Federal Revenue. Virginia, the two Carolina's, and Georgia, may be said to defray three fourths of the annual expense of supporting the Federal Government; and of this great sum, annually furnished by them, nothing or next to nothing is returned to them, in the shape of Government expenditures that expenditure flows in an opposite direction - it flows North, in one uniform, uninterrupted and perennial stream. This is the reason why wealth disappears from the South and rises up in the North. Federal Legislation does this." Senator Thomas Hart Benton

"If the peace of this country can only be preserved by forgetting the Confederate soldier’s deeds and his claims upon the South, the blessing is too dearly bought." From Reminiscences of a Private, by Carlton McCarthy, published in 1882

"I love the Union and the Constitution, but I would rather leave the Union with the Constitution than remain in the Union without it.'' Jefferson Davis
